UNC Asheville Launches Newly Designed Web Site

UNC Asheville will launch a newly designed Web site (www.unca.edu) on Friday, Feb. 5. The new site, under construction since April 2009, includes a new look as well as a new site structure designed to help users find the information they need quickly.

The goal of the redesign project has been to provide more opportunities for Web visitors to learn about the activities of students and faculty and through feature stories, photographs, video and the voices of the campus community. The project also included installing new hardware and a new Content Management System to support the site and allow easier maintenance and updates.

Kiplinger's Ranks UNC Asheville Among the Best Educational Values in Nation

A survey from Kiplinger's Personal Finance ranks UNC Asheville 44th in the nation as a best value for in-state students and 50th in the nation as a best value for out-of-state students.

The annual list ranks four-year institutions that combine outstanding education with economic value.

UNC Asheville to Test New Outdoor Emergency Siren System on December 12

UNC Asheville is completing the installation of a new emergency siren system and will conduct a full-volume test during brief periods between 3 and 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12. The campus community as well as neighborhoods adjacent to campus may hear intermittent warning tones and spoken announcements. The test is to assess the volume and reach of the system.

UNC Asheville Board of Trustees Approves Proposed Tuition and Fee Recommendations for the 2010-11 Academic Year

The UNC Asheville Board of Trustees approved proposed tuition and fees for the 2010-11 academic year at its meeting Monday, Dec. 7. The recommendation, which now moves to the University of North Carolina Board of Governors for consideration, originated with campus tuition and fee committees, made up of faculty, students and administrators.

RBC Bank Donates $5,000 to UNC Asheville's Math Literacy Summit

UNC Asheville's Math Literacy Summit has helped local K-12 teachers, parents and students build better math skills. Now the annual event is also receiving support from RBC Bank. The bank recently donated $5,000 to support the 2009 daylong event, which featured a keynote address by noted mathematician and University of Arizona professor William Velez followed by eight workshops.

UNC Asheville Athletics to Begin Certification Process from NCAA

UNC Asheville Chancellor Anne Ponder has announced the start of the National Collegiate Athletic Association third-cycle recertification process for the university’s department of athletics. 

The campus received its second certification by the NCAA in 2002.

The most recent certification process will evaluate the athletic department’s commitment to three operating principles outlined by the NCAA: 1) governance and commitment to rules, 2) academic integrity, and 3) gender/diversity issues and student-athlete well being.

UNC Asheville's "A Conversation with Asheville's University" Features UNC-TV's Bill Friday

Bill Friday, host of the popular UNC-TV show, "North Carolina People," is the special guest of UNC Asheville Chancellor Anne Ponder on "A Conversation with Asheville's University," airing through October 27 on Charter Cable channel 16 in Buncombe County.
