UNC-Chapel Hill Confirms Pharmacy Students to Enroll in Asheville in 2011

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will begin enrolling students in a new satellite pharmacy-education program based at the University of North Carolina Asheville in the fall of 2011.

UNC Asheville Receives $40,000 Gift from Kennametal Foundation

UNC Asheville's Zeis Hall, the new cutting-edge facility for the study of natural sciences and multimedia arts, recently received a boost from the Pennsylvania-based Kennametal Foundation. The foundation donated $40,000 to UNC Asheville, which will benefit the programs and equipment in Zeis Hall. The university named the chemistry lobby, located on the lower level of the building, in honor of Kennametal Inc.

UNC Asheville Board of Trustees to Meet in Retreat July 12-13

UNC Asheville's Board of Trustees will meet for a retreat from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, July 12, and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, at the U.S.D.A. Forest Service Conference Room, 200 Weaver Blvd., in Asheville. The meeting is open to the public. Portions of the meeting may be closed to the public under the provisions of the North Carolina Open Meetings Act.

UNC Asheville to Hold Live Emergency Response Training Exercise May 21

As part of UNC Asheville's efforts to enhance campus safety, the university will be joined by a number of community agencies for a live emergency response training exercise on campus on Friday, May 21. The training exercise will be conducted by EnviroSafe Consulting and Investigations Inc., a firm hired by University of North Carolina General Administration to conduct training and simulations at each of the 17 UNC system campuses.

UNC Asheville Celebrates 82nd Annual Commencement

More than 4,500 family and friends gathered on UNC Asheville's Quadrangle Saturday morning to celebrate UNC Asheville's 2010 graduating class. Some 677 students were honored during the 82nd Commencement Ceremony, including 436 spring graduates, 34 summer graduates and 207 winter graduates, who were snowed out of their ceremony in December.

N.C. Gov. Beverly Perdue recently released her proposed 2010-2011 budget, which included a number of recommendations for the University of North Carolina system.

Noted Civil Rights Leader, Freedom Singer Bernice Johnson Reagon to Deliver Commencement Address

UNC Asheville Chancellor Anne Ponder will confer honorary degrees on noted Civil Rights leader and Freedom Singer Bernice Johnson Reagon and legendary UNC-Chapel Hill Coaches Dean Smith and Roy Williams at the university's spring commencement. The ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 15, on UNC Asheville's Quad. Reagon will give the commencement address to some 500 graduates.
