UNC Asheville Alumna to Give Talks on Social Change in Rural Haiti

UNC Asheville alumna Amber Munger, assistant coordinator and legal adviser for AMURT-Haiti, will give two talks on her work in rural Haiti on Thursday, Sept. 3, on campus. She will discuss "Economic and Social Change in Rural Haiti" at 12:30 p.m. in the Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall. Munger will then give a talk on "Promoting Community Leadership in Haiti's Poorest Communes" at 6:30 p.m. in room 104 of the Highsmith University Union. The events are free and open to the public.

UNC Asheville's Student Government Association to Dedicate New Campus Disc Golf Course

UNC Asheville's Student Government Association (SGA) will dedicate the first six holes of the new campus disc golf course at a ceremony this weekend. UNC Asheville Chancellor and SGA President Courtland Mercer will give brief remarks and then throw out the first disc. The event will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at UNC Asheville's Mullen Park, across from Zeis Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Gov. Beverly Perdue recently announced that two UNC Asheville students are among 100 college, graduate and law students selected for 10-week paid summer internships with state agencies. More than 700 students from across the state applied to the program, which is now in its 39th year.

UNC Asheville Student Group Hosts Latino Scholarship Festival

UNC Asheville Hispanic student group, Club HOLA, will host its Second Annual Latino Scholarship Festival from noon-9 p.m. Saturday, April 18, on UNC Asheville's Quad. In case of rain, the event will be moved to Alumni Hall, located on the lower level of the Highsmith University Union. Proceeds will benefit local Latino youth who are pursuing college.

The event will feature traditional dancing, informational booths, a silent auction, food, art, games and live music. Headliners include the B*Side Players, of San Diego, Calif.

TheatreUNCA to Stage the Musical Comedy "Urinetown" April 22-26

TheatreUNCA will stage the Tony Award winning musical comedy "Urinetown" April 22-26 at UNC Asheville's Carol Belk Theatre. Curtain is 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee. All shows are open to the public.
