Republic of Korea Consul General He Beom Kim to Speak in Asheville

He Beom Kim, consul general for the Republic of Korea, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4 in UNC Asheville's Reuter Center. Kim's talk, "The Republic of Korea, Its Role and Leadership: The New Economies and Politics of the Asia-Pacific," is co-sponsored by the WNC chapter of the World Affairs Council, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UNC Asheville, and the university's department of political science.

Director of U.S. Special Envoy Office to Provide Update on Sudan Crisis

Larry Andre, director of the U.S. Special Envoy Office to Sudan, just returned from that country, will provide an update on ongoing crisis there which has caused the displacement of 900,000 people in the past year. His talk is sponsored by the World Affairs Council, the UNC Asheville Department of Political Science and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). Andre will speak at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the UNC Asheville Reuter Center, Manheimer Room.

Food Day at UNC Asheville to Probe Local Impact of Federal Food Policy

Food Day at UNC Asheville will present a chance to learn more about the federal farm bill and its impact on local farmers and food consumers. Food Day activities are free and open to the public and take place from 4-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, in UNC Asheville's Sherrill Center, Mountain View Room.

Underwater Archaeology at Shipwreck Sites: “Ghost Ships of the Klondike Gold Rush” Is Subject of UNC Asheville Talk

"Ghost Ships of the Klondike Gold Rush," an illustrated lecture by Robyn Woodward describing her work preserving and documenting shipwrecks along the Yukon River in Canada, will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1 in Ramsey Library, Whitman Room.

“Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War” - UNC Asheville to host national exhibit, along with local diaries, portraits, and slave deeds

"Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War," a national traveling exhibition, will open at UNC Asheville's Ramsey Library on October 15. The exhibit examines how President Lincoln viewed the Constitution as applied to three intertwined crises of the Civil War—the secession of Southern states, slavery and wartime civil liberties.
