UNC Asheville to Host Lecture on Conservation in Archaeology

UNC Asheville will host a talk on "Conservation in Archaeology: Case Studies in the Mediterranean," by archaeologist and scholar Roberto Nardi, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, in UNC Asheville's Ramsey Library, Whitman Room.

Re-Viewing Black Mountain College2: Second Annual International Conference October 8-10

The Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center and UNC Asheville are pleased to present Re-Viewing Black Mountain College2, an international conference that explores the history and rich legacy of the innovative Black Mountain College. The October 8-10 conference includes includes more than 45 panels, performance, poetry and film. Internationally known sculptor Kenneth Snelson will give the keynote address.

UNC Asheville's Center for Jewish Studies Presents "Jewish Body/Jewish Mind"

UNC Asheville's Center for Jewish Studies will present "Jewish Body/Jewish Mind: An Anthropologist Looks at His Own People," a lecture by noted author and scholar Melvin Konner, M.D. The talk begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Fall issue of “The Great Smokies Review” is now on the Web

The Fall 2010 issue of “The Great Smokies Review,” an online literary magazine published by UNC Asheville’s Great Smokies Writing Program (GSWP), is now on the Web and ready for viewing at www.thegreatsmokiesreview.org.

Theatre UNCA Stages Series of Tennessee Williams' Short Plays

Theatre UNCA kicks off its fall season with three one-act plays by Tennessee Williams, including "The Long Goodbye," "Hello From Bertha" and "The Lady of Larkspur Lotion" from September 23-25. These performances are the first of a series of Williams' one-act plays to be staged throughout the fall semester. Performances will take place at UNC Asheville’s Carol Belk Theater. Curtain is 8 p.m. All shows are open to the public.

UNC Asheville begins Fall 2010 Writers at Home series with readings by two authors

Local authors Jen Fawkes and Janet Hurley will kick off UNC Asheville’s Fall 2010 Writers at Home series with a reading at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at Malaprop's Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St., downtown Asheville. The event is free and open to the public.

Author and columnist Susan Reinhardt kicks off new Regional Author Talks series at UNC Asheville

UNC Asheville begins a new series, Regional Author Talks, with a special evening appearance by Susan Reinhardt, author and Asheville Citizen-Times columnist. Regional Author Talks will feature well-known Western North Carolina writers on many Tuesdays this fall. All are free and open to the public.

"Sí, pero no lo soy" (Yes, but I'm not) - Teatro Latino

With five actors portraying 38 characters, this is a collection of theatrical sketches about identity. It has been has been staged in Spain, Costa Rica and Columbia. Now, thanks to the work of UNC Asheville faculty, students and alumni, “Sí, pero no lo soy” will make its North American debut at the N.C. Stage Company in Asheville.

UNC Asheville's Great Smokies Writing Program Offers Fall Workshops

Local writers will have the opportunity to hone their skills with UNC Asheville's Great Smokies Writing Program's fall workshops in poetry and prose. These classes, which meet for ten weeks, are open to all interested writers but class size is limited; early registration is suggested.

N.C. Center for Creative Retirement Hosts Talk on Dante's "Divine Comedy"

The North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement at UNC Asheville will host a talk on "Lost in Transition, or Dante Goes to Hell" from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 20. The talk, presented by Dante scholar Richard Lansing, will be held in the Reuter Center, room 206. It is free and open to the public.
