“Aging with Awareness” – Rabbi Sheila Weinberg to Speak at UNC Asheville

Rabbi Sheila Weinberg, co-founder of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality, will present a talk, "Aging with Awareness," at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center. Weinberg's talk is sponsored by the university's Center for Jewish Studies and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNC Asheville. This event is free and open to the public.

Junior Walk, opponent of mountaintop removal mining, to speak at UNC Asheville

Junior Walk, a West Virginia native who travels the country speaking out against mountaintop-removal mining on behalf of the Keeper of the Mountains Foundation, will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, in UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union, Alumni Hall. Walk was a 2011 recipient of the Earth Island Institute's Brower Youth Award for Environmental Leadership.

F-Word (Feminist) Film Festival to feature documentary, “The Invisible War,” and talk by Jennifer Pozner

UNC Asheville's annual F-Word (Feminist) Film Festival takes place March 4-5 with a screening of the documentary about sexual assault in the military, "The Invisible War," and a talk by media analyst Jennifer Pozner, "Project Brainwash: Why Reality TV is Bad for Women (...and men, people of color, the economy, love, sex and sheer common sense!)."

UNC Asheville Hosts Third Annual Health Fair at Kimmel Arena

UNC Asheville will host its third annual Health Fair with exhibits from some 40 local health organizations and businesses, from 11 a.m-2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, on the Kimmel Arena concourse. The fair is free and open to the public, with free parking available in the Kimmel Arena parking deck.

UNC Asheville Hosts “Speak-Out” on Sexual Harassment

UNC Asheville will host a sexual harassment "speak-out" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the Laurel Forum in Karpen Hall. The speak-out will bring voice to diverse experiences of sexual harassment, and provide information about preventing and defending oneself against sexual harassment. The event is free and open to the public.

Food Day at UNC Asheville to Probe Local Impact of Federal Food Policy

Food Day at UNC Asheville will present a chance to learn more about the federal farm bill and its impact on local farmers and food consumers. Food Day activities are free and open to the public and take place from 4-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, in UNC Asheville's Sherrill Center, Mountain View Room.

National Physical Education Institute at UNC Asheville to Focus on Obesity Prevention

Some 250 physical education teachers and administrators from across the country will gather at UNC Asheville for a five-day institute designed to help schools use limited resources to improve physical education and obesity prevention programs for grades K-12. The N.C. Center for Health & Wellness at UNC Asheville will host the National PE Institute, July 30-August 3, at the Sherrill Center.
