“State of the Black Student” Highlights Black History Month at UNC Asheville

UNC Asheville will celebrate Black History Month throughout February with a series of events, headlined by a distinguished panel analyzing the “State of the Black Student.”

UNC Asheville Hosts Second Annual Health Fair at Kimmel Arena

UNC Asheville will host its second annual Health Fair with exhibits from some 40 local health organizations and businesses, from 11 a.m-2 p.m. Thursday, January 12, on the Kimmel Arena concourse. The fair is free and open to the public, with free parking available in the Kimmel Arena parking deck.

UNC Asheville to Host PostSecret’s Frank Warren in Sold-Out Event

Frank Warren, creator of PostSecret, will speak in a sold-out appearance at UNC Asheville at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, in UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium.

Advance Care Planning Workshop at N.C. Center for Creative Retirement

UNC Asheville’s North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement will hold an advance care planning workshop featuring area experts in the medical, legal and ethical issues presented by end-of-life health care decisions. The workshop, from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11 at UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center, is free and open to the public.

Healthy Living Day Set for October 1 at N.C. Center for Creative Retirement

The North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement presents Healthy Living Day, with a full schedule of wellness activities and classes October 1 at UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center. Healthy Living Day is free and open to the public, from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Healthy Living Day is part of Active Aging Week in Buncombe County.

WNC High School Students to Explore Health Careers at MAHEC Conference on October 11

Some 500 high school students from across Western North Carolina will explore an array of career opportunities in the fields of health care, health education and more at the 12th annual Health Careers Education Awareness Conference, "Navigating Your Journey to a Health Career," at UNC Asheville's Wilma Sherrill Center on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011.

Patch Adams, Sports and Health Expos to Conclude Well-a-Bration at UNC Asheville

UNC Asheville’s Well-a-Bration week of health and wellness activities will conclude with a talk by Dr. Patch Adams and two expos in the new Sherrill Center.

“Well-a-Bration” Events Support Healthier Eating

Nutrition workshops, garden tours and cooking demonstrations in the Sherrill Center’s new teaching kitchen will all be part of “Well-a-Bration,” a week of activities showcasing UNC Asheville’s health and wellness programs. Well-a-Bration, which takes place Monday, Sept. 12, through Saturday, Sept. 17 at UNC Asheville, will also feature exercise programs, meetings of health policy leaders, health and sports expos, and a talk by Dr. Patch Adams, the well-known physician, clown, and advocate.

Health Policy Up for Discussion at UNC Asheville’s “Well-a-Bration”

A series of important health policy discussions will be part of “Well-a-Bration,” a week of activities September 12-17 showcasing UNC Asheville’s health and wellness programs. These events, organized by UNC Asheville’s N.C. Center for Health & Wellness (NCCH&W) in collaboration with community partners, take place in the new Sherrill Center and are open to the public.

“Well-a-Bration,” a week of activities showcasing UNC Asheville’s health and wellness programs and the grand opening of the new Sherrill Center, will take place Monday, Sept. 12, through Saturday, Sept. 17. The week will feature cooking and exercise programs, meetings of health policy leaders, two expos, and a talk by Dr. Patch Adams, the physician and social activist who inspired the Robin Williams film named for him. Many Well-a-Bration events and activities will be free and open to the public.
