UNC Asheville to Host Talk on Ancient Italian Excavation Site

UNC Asheville will host a talk on “The Etruscan Sanctuary at Cetamura del Chianti, Italy,” by internationally known scholar Nancy T. de Grummond, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, in UNC Asheville’s Ramsey Library, Whitman Room. De Grummond is an expert on Etruscology, the study of the ancient Etruscan civilization, which existed prior to the founding of Rome.

UNC Asheville to Host Talk on “Communicating Climate Change Science”

The UNC Asheville Department of Atmospheric Sciences will host a talk on “Communicating Climate Change Science” by noted scholar David R. Easterling at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, in UNC Asheville’s Karpen Hall, room 38.

UNC Asheville Hosts Second Annual Visualizing Human Rights Anti-Conference; Event Sponsored by Four North Carolina Universities

What do human rights abuses look like? How do they feel? What difference do they make to our lives? These and other questions will be examined at the Second Annual Visualizing Human Rights Anti-Conference from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union. The event will bring together visual and performance artists to put a human face on human rights in an effort to reach beyond traditional academic approaches. The event is free and open to the public; lunch will be provided.

UNC Asheville Alumna to Give Talks on Social Change in Rural Haiti

UNC Asheville alumna Amber Munger, assistant coordinator and legal adviser for AMURT-Haiti, will give two talks on her work in rural Haiti on Thursday, Sept. 3, on campus. She will discuss "Economic and Social Change in Rural Haiti" at 12:30 p.m. in the Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall. Munger will then give a talk on "Promoting Community Leadership in Haiti's Poorest Communes" at 6:30 p.m. in room 104 of the Highsmith University Union. The events are free and open to the public.

Telash Theatre Company Stages Spanish-Language Play on Immigration

Telash, Asheville's Spanish-language theatre company, will stage the original piece "Contamos todos" at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 1-2, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union Grotto. The group is a collaboration between UNC Asheville and the local Latino community. The performance will be multilingual, weaving together vignettes showing many of the challenges that immigrants face in their adopted county. The event is free and open to the public, but a $5 donation is suggested. Ticket reservations are strongly advised.
