UNC Asheville’s “Interstellar Dance Project” to Touch Down at Bebe Theater

The UNC Asheville Dance Program will present its annual spring concert with three performances, 7 p.m. Friday, April 12, and 7 and 9 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Bebe Theater, 20 Commerce St. in downtown Asheville.

UNC Asheville offers final free tax preparation session April 6

With the April 15 deadline looming for filing income tax returns, Saturday, April 6, brings one last chance for community residents to get their income tax returns prepared for free by UNC Asheville volunteers as part of the IRS VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. The tax preparation assistance team will be ready to prepare tax returns from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m., April 6, in the Pack Memorial Library, 67 Haywood Street in downtown Asheville. (The library is closed March 30 for the Easter holiday.) No appointment is necessary.

TheatreUNCA presents “Spring Awakening”

TheatreUNCA will present the Tony Award-winning musical "Spring Awakening," with 6 evening performances and one matinee, opening April 4 in UNC Asheville's Carol Belk Theatre.

UNC Asheville to help middle schools implement new Common Core Standards

UNC Asheville faculty will begin intensive work this summer with teams of teachers from Asheville City and McDowell County Schools to help the schools implement new state standards, provide more intellectually rigorous instruction, and support teaching of "big ideas."

Panel to discuss “Boundaries: Art and its Relationship to Systems of Oppression”

Local artists Jeremy Russell and Valeria Watson-Doost, creators of the "Whole Earth Theory" exhibition at UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union Gallery, will be joined by members of UNC Asheville's faculty for a panel discussion, "Boundaries," on the nexus of art and politics at 6 p.m. Monday, March 25 at the Highsmith University Union Grotto on campus.

March “Writers at Home” to feature Katherine Min and Beth Keefauver

continues in March with readings by writers Beth Keefauver and Katherine Min. The readings will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17 at Malaprop's Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St., in downtown Asheville. This event is free and open to the public.

F-Word (Feminist) Film Festival to feature documentary, “The Invisible War,” and talk by Jennifer Pozner

UNC Asheville's annual F-Word (Feminist) Film Festival takes place March 4-5 with a screening of the documentary about sexual assault in the military, "The Invisible War," and a talk by media analyst Jennifer Pozner, "Project Brainwash: Why Reality TV is Bad for Women (...and men, people of color, the economy, love, sex and sheer common sense!)."

Energy documentary "Switch" at UNC Asheville and A-B Tech

The energy documentary "Switch" will be screened at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at UNC Asheville in Rhodes-Robinson Hall, Room 125 and at 4 p.m. Feb. 21 in Ferguson Auditorium at A-B Tech Community College.

President and First Lady Meet the UNC Asheville Singers

The White House has provided a photo of the UNC Asheville Singers with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama in the Diplomatic Reception Room, where the Singers entertained the first couple and their guests on December 14.

UNC Asheville Bestows 243 Diplomas at December 2012 Commencement

Some 2,000 family and friends gathered in UNC Asheville's Kimmel Arena on Saturday, Dec. 15, to celebrate the university's newest graduates. Included among the 243 who earned diplomas in December are 12 graduates of UNC Asheville's growing Master of Liberal Arts program.
