Noted Scholar David Foster to Discuss Queer Theory in Latin American Literature

UNC Asheville will host a lecture on queer theory in Latin American literature by noted scholar and author David William Foster at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, in UNC Asheville’s Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall. The lecture, “Of Gay Caballeros and Other Noble Heroes,” will discuss deconstructing the assumptions of heteronormativity. UNC Asheville's Center for Jewish Studies will host an evening with acclaimed Jewish author Howard Schwartz at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center. Schwartz will give a talk on "Tales of the Great Jewish Mystics," which is his most popular program. Following the talk, UNC Asheville's Hillel student organization will host a havdalah ceremony and dessert reception. UNC Asheville will host an evening with acclaimed Civil Rights leader and songstress Bernice Johnson Reagon at 7 p.m. Friday, March 19, in UNC Asheville's Lipinsky Auditorium. Reagon, who has been selected to give the May 2010 UNC Asheville Commencement Address, will engage the audience in her signature "song-talk" style. CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER -- Child prodigy turned professional musician Esperanza Spalding will perform with her jazz ensemble at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium.
