UPDATE: Brian Moore of Mission Health System to stand in for Janet Moore as final Fab Friday speaker

UPDATE: Brian D Moore, Mission Health System's director of planning and public policy, will stand in for his colleague, Janet Moore (no relation), as the final speaker in this spring's Fab Friday series at the N.C. Center for Creative Retirement. Moore's talk, "The Health Care Maze: Where Are We?" will begin at 11:30 a.m., Friday, May 13, at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center.

Registration Opens May 17 for College for Seniors Summer Term

From Emily Dickinson to foreign policy issues, learning opportunities will abound when the N.C. Center for Creative Retirement's nationally noted College for Seniors begins its summer session at UNC Asheville. Registration will open at 8 a.m. on May 17 at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center.

Writers at Home Spring Series Concludes with Readings from "The Great Smokies Review"

Contributors from the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 issues of "The Great Smokies Review," the online literary magazine published by UNC Asheville’s Great Smokies Writing Program, will present a reading of their works at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Malaprop’s Book Store/Café, 55 Haywood St., downtown Asheville.

2011 Windgate Fellows announced by UNC Asheville's Center for Craft, Creativity & Design

UNC Asheville's Center for Craft, Creativity & Design (CCCD) has awarded ten graduating seniors each with $15,000 in the form of a Windgate Fellowship. More than 70 universities from across the United States were each invited to each nominate two graduating seniors with exemplary skill in craft for one of the largest awards offered nationally to art students. Applicants completed an online application with images of their work and a proposal outlining how the $15,000 would enhance their careers.

Saturday, May 7 Only - Change of Time/Location for North Asheville Tailgate Market

The North Asheville Tailgate Market, held Saturday mornings at UNC Asheville, is moving off campus to a nearby location on May 7 to accommodate the university's commencement ceremony.

New Asheville Chamber Music Institute to Debut at UNC Asheville in June

UNC Asheville will host a new summer music program, the Asheville Chamber Music Institute, June 13-18 on the campus. The institute will offer adult amateur woodwind and brass players of various levels the chance to study and play with world-class performers who are part of a new musical collaborative called Pan Harmonia. The Asheville Chamber Music Institute is one of only two all-wind programs of its kind in the nation this year.

Still "Feelin' Groovy" – Reuter Center Singers to Present '60s Folk Songfest

The Reuter Center Singers will present a '60s Folk Songfest at 3 p.m. Sunday May 15, at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center. A chorus of more than 50 voices, the Reuter Center Singers stage spring and fall concerts at the North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement, and perform in many other community venues, including Biltmore House, the Veterans' Administration Hospital, churches and retirement homes.

UNC Asheville Offers GRE and SAT Prep Classes

Registration is now open for the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) prep classes offered by the Asheville Graduate Center. Classes will meet on the UNC Asheville campus.

UNC Asheville's Great Smokies Writing Program Offers Summer Workshops

Local writers will have the opportunity to hone their skills with UNC Asheville's Great Smokies Writing Program's summer workshops in poetry and prose. Classes are open to all interested writers but class size is limited; early registration is suggested.
