New Exhibition, “Now but Not Yet,” to Open at UNC Asheville’s Cooke Gallery

“Now but Not Yet,” a new exhibit of drawings and installations by UNC Asheville senior Dona Barnett, will be on view March 2-20 in the S. Tucker Cooke Gallery in UNC Asheville’s Owen Hall. An opening reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 2, in the gallery.
New Exhibition, “Artistic Diversity in Fiber,” at UNC Asheville

“Artistic Diversity in Fiber,” a new exhibition showcasing quilting, knitting, doll-making, and other fiber arts, opens March 1 at Blowers Gallery in UNC Asheville’s Ramsey Library. The exhibition is free and open to the public and will remain on view through March 30. An opening reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 1, in the gallery.
“Our Voices, Our Stories” – UNC Asheville Hosts Multi-Media Exhibit Conveying Immigrants’ Experiences

“Our Voices, Our Stories, Nuestras Voces, Nuestras Historias,” a new traveling exhibition documenting the lives of immigrants and their journeys to and within Western North Carolina, will take up residence at UNC Asheville’s Highsmith University Union Gallery during the month of March. The exhibit includes art in different and mixed media, and the voices of immigrants interviewed about their lives and experiences.
Theatre UNCA to Perform Molière’s “Tartuffe”

Theatre UNCA will stage Molière’s 1664 satiric comedy, “Tartuffe,” with seven performances from March 22–31 in the university’s Carol Belk Theatre. “Tartuffe” is the story of a con man pretending to be a religious figure, and the family he tricks.
World Champion of the Digital Accordion to Play with UNC Asheville Jazz Ensembles

Poet and Novelist Sandra Cisneros to Speak March 2

Celebrated novelist and poet Sandra Cisneros takes the stage in Asheville on Friday, March 2, at 7 p.m., at UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium. An Evening with Sandra Cisneros is free and open to the public and will include a book-signing and reception.
A Full Season of Student Performances with UNC Asheville’s Music Department

UNC Asheville’s Music Department has a busy season of student performances planned on campus this spring. Upcoming are two performances scheduled in February, three in March, and three in April. Admission is $5 at the door for each performance, with students and children free.

Three writers from UNC Asheville’s Master of Liberal Arts program will be featured in February’s installment of the “Writers at Home” series, sponsored by UNC Asheville’s Great Smokies Writing program. Award-winning screenwriter Maryedith Burrell, Ann Barrett, and Jessica Pepper will read from their current works at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at Malaprop’s Bookstore and Café, 55 Haywood St. in downtown Asheville. It is free and open to the public.
