“Rounds in the Round” Dance Performance at UNC Asheville

“Rounds in the Round,” a performance by UNC Asheville’s dance program featuring ballet, modern, Jazz, hip hop, Filipino, Middle Eastern, tap, soft shoe and more, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 13-14, in Carol Belk Theatre on the campus.

A Century Later, Allan Wolf Brings “Voices from the Titanic” to Life at UNC Asheville

One-hundred years to the day that the Titanic sank, Asheville writer Allan Wolf will present a reader’s theater presentation of his award-winning book, “The Watch That Ends the Night: Voices from the Titanic” at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in UNC Asheville’s Karpen Hall, Laurel Forum. This presentation, which will include related music, visual slides, and tea and pastries reminiscent of tea time on the Titanic, is free and open to the public.

Functional and Decorative Art and Ceramics for Sale at UNC Asheville

UNC Asheville's Art Department will hold its annual Spring Ceramic and Art Sale from 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 20, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in S. Tucker Cooke Gallery in UNC Asheville's Owen Hall. The sale is open to the public.

Biographer of Tryon-born Singer and Civil Rights Figure Nina Simone to Speak at UNC Asheville

Nadine Cohodas, biographer of Nina Simone, will discuss the Tryon-born singer, pianist and civil rights movement figure, in a lecture at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29 in UNC Asheville’s Highsmith University Union, Mountain Suites. The lecture is free and open to the public.

UNC Asheville’s annual F-Word (Feminist) Film Festival: A Celebration of Images By and About Women But For All Audiences, returns March 21-26 with screenings on campus of “Miss Representation” and three other films, and discussions featuring university faculty, students and distinguished leaders in the community, including Asheville Mayor Terry Bellamy. All F-Word Festival events are free and open to the public.

UNC Asheville's undergraduate writing scholarship winners will present their works in the next installment of UNC Asheville's Writers at Home series. Duke University religion scholar Shalom Goldman, together with folksinger Lisa Deaton, will present “Johnny Cash in the Holy Land: Christian Zionism and American Popular Culture,” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 12, in UNC Asheville’s Sherrill Center Mountain View conference room 417. This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Center for Jewish Studies at UNC Asheville.
