ReVIEWING Black Mountain College 4: Looking Forward at Buckminster Fuller's Legacy

The Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center (BMCM+AC) in partnership with UNC Asheville, the UNC Asheville Howerton Distinguished Professor in the Humanities and the Buckminster Fuller Institute (BFI) is pleased to announce ReVIEWING Black Mountain College 4 to be held September 28-30, 2012, a weekend gathering of scholars, practitioners and artists coming to Asheville to discuss, present and experience topics and workshops related to the forward-thinking ideas of Buckminster Fuller. The three-day conference will focus on Fuller's "comprehensive anticipatory design science" as a means for fostering prosperous, livable communities through creative, interdisciplinary thinking. The program for the weekend will include an array of presentations, panels and free experiential workshops connected to the vast web of ideas, initiatives and practices that Fuller championed during his life - and that others have taken on since his death.

Photography Exhibit by Jon Michael Riley to Open at UNC Asheville’s Blowers Gallery

"Horizons – Past and Present," an exhibition of photographs by Jon Michael Riley, will open Friday, Aug. 10, at Blowers Gallery in UNC Asheville's Ramsey Library. A meet-the-artist reception will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the gallery. The exhibit and reception are both free and open to the public.

Gabriel Shaffer to Exhibit at UNC Asheville’s Highsmith Gallery

UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union Gallery presents a new exhibition, "Invisible Ink: Works on Paper by Gabriel Shaffer," opening Friday, Aug. 10. A reception featuring a short talk by the artist and refreshments will be held in the gallery from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23. The reception and exhibition are both free and open to the public.

UNC Asheville Music Series at Altamont Theatre Continues July 23

The UNC Asheville Music Series at the Altamont Theatre continues at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 23, with faculty, students and alumni performing in an eclectic mix of styles. These monthly concerts are free and open to the public, at 18 Church Street in downtown Asheville.

UNC Asheville Center for Craft, Creativity & Design to Host Exhibition: “Bridge 11: Lia Cook”

The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design (CCCD) presents "Bridge 11: Lia Cook" a solo exhibition by this internationally recognized fiber artist. The exhibition opens with a reception from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 26, and will be on view through the end of October, at the CCCD, 1181 Broyles Road in Hendersonville. The exhibit is free and open to the public; gallery hours are noon-5 p.m. weekdays.

Charles Frazier to Speak July 8 at UNC Asheville

Charles Frazier, author of "Cold Mountain" and other novels, will speak at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 8, as part of a new series of talks by great Southern writers at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center. The series is free and open to the public, and will feature 3 p.m. author talks every Sunday afternoon in July.

Now a Ticketed Event - UNC Asheville Talks by Ron Rash, Charles Frazier and other Great Southern Authors

A quintet of great Southern writers, including Ron Rash and Charles Frazier, will speak in July at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center as part of the Summer Authors Speakers Series. The series of talks, produced by the Appalachian Studies Program of the College for Seniors at UNC Asheville's N.C. Center for Creative Retirement, is free and open to the public, 3-4:30 p.m. Sundays.

Tommy Hays Kicks Off Summer Author Speaker Series at UNC Asheville July 1

Tommy Hays, acclaimed novelist and executive director of UNC Asheville's Great Smokies Writing Program, will speak at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 1, to kick off a new series of talks by great Southern writers at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center.  NOTE - THIS IS NOW A TICKETED EVENT.

Arthur Miller, George Bernard Shaw in Reader’s Theater Presentations This Summer

Plays by Arthur Miller and George Bernard Shaw will be featured in two summer Sunday afternoon Reader's Theater presentations at the N.C. Center for Creative Retirement. The Autumn Players, a troupe of seasoned actors from the Asheville Community Theater, will perform these dramatic readings at 2:30 p.m., with $5 admission, at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center.

New Art Exhibit to Open at UNC Asheville’s Blowers Gallery

"Footprints in the Sand," a new exhibit of mixed media works by Patrick Berger, will open May 21 in Blowers Gallery in UNC Asheville's Ramsey Library. A reception with the artist will be held from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, in the gallery.
