UNC Asheville Hosts Print Exhibit by Visiting Artist Kore Loy Wildredkinde-McWhirter; Yancey County Artist's Work Explores Her Unconventional Childhood

It is said that art imitates life. But in an upcoming exhibition at UNC Asheville, life imitates art. The show, entitled "redhanded: a songe forre the loste," is an exhibition of 13 prints and poems by Yancey County artist Kore Loy Wildrekinde-McWhirter. The exhibition provides a glimpse into the artist's unconventional childhood in a religious sect plagued by violence. The content of this exhibition may not be suitable for younger audiences. The events are free and open to the public.

UNC Asheville Hosts Historical Photo Exhibition of Asheville's East End

“Asheville’s East End Circa 1968,” a photography exhibition by Asheville artist Andrea Clark, is on view through February 26 in UNC Asheville’s Blowers Gallery. The exhibition includes 26 framed black-and-white photographs and a large historical map of Asheville. A reception will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, in the gallery, with a talk by the artist at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

UNC Asheville Continues Writers at Home Series January 17

The UNC Asheville 2009-2010 Writers at Home Series continues with readings by students in the Great Smokies Writing Program's prose master class. The readings will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at Malaprop's Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St., downtown Asheville.

UNC Asheville Hosts Inaugural National Juried Drawing Exhibition

UNC Asheville's Art Department and Craft Studies will co-host the inaugural National Juried Drawing Exhibition January 12-February 2 at the S. Tucker Cooke Gallery, located on the first floor of UNC Asheville's Owen Hall. Juror Deborah Rockman, a noted artist, reviewed some 564 entries from 183 artists from across the nation.
