UNC Asheville Holds Spring Ceramic and Art Sale

UNC Asheville's Art Department will hold its annual Spring Ceramic and Art Sale from 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 30, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, in UNC Asheville's S. Four UNC Asheville senior will hold art exhibitions in Owen Hall April 30-May 11. Exhibitions on view in Owen Hall's Second Floor Gallery include printmaking works by Melanie Carrick, sculpture by Nicolette Carter, and paintings and drawings by James Stickney. Two solo art exhibitions by UNC Asheville seniors will open April 30 on campus. An opening reception for Amber Harrelson-Williams' exhibition will be held from 5-7 p.m. in UNC Asheville's Blowers Gallery in Ramsey Library followed by a reception for Christina Foosness' exhibition from 7-9 p.m. in UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union Gallery. The UNC Asheville Electronic Music Ensemble will present a concert of original experimental electronic music compositions at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, at the Boiler Room, 11 Grove St. in downtown Asheville. Virginia Derryberry, a noted painter and UNC Asheville art professor, has been named a visiting artist at the prestigious American Academy in Rome. She will spend a two-week residency at the Academy in June producing new works. Derryberry plans to use resources found in the Academy's newly renovated Janet C. Ross Library as well as specific collections of Caravaggio paintings in the Italian city to inform her personal investigation of the intersection of art and alchemy. TheatreUNCA will stage the classic Greek tragedy, "The Trojan Women," April 21-25. The show will be held on the Reynolds Green lawn, located in front of Carol Belk Theatre. Curtain is 6 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee. Rain date is 6 p.m. Sunday, April 25. All shows are free and open to the public.
