UNC Asheville will host its third annual Well-A-Bration, celebrating healthful living and wellness, September 16- 17. Well-A-Bration is a unique UNC Asheville recognition and celebration of the roles played by healthful living and wellness in the achievement of individual, campus and community well-being.
Well-a-Bration highlights that are free and open to the public include:
Walk with the Bulldogs—6:30-7:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 16, beginning at the Bulldog Statue. This extended walking tour of the UNC Asheville campus offers a chance to meet with Bulldog student-athletes and ask coaches questions. Participants should wear appropriate clothing and shoes designed for variable terrain. In case of rain, the walk will be moved to the Kimmel Arena Concourse.
An Evening with Shellie Pfohl – 6-7:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16, Sherrill Center Mission Health Mountain View Room. Pfohl is executive director of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition and leads the Council's efforts related to First Lady Michelle Obama's national “Let's Move!” initiative to solve childhood obesity within a generation.
UNC Asheville Health Fair—11 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, Kimmel Arena Concourse. The fourth annual student-run health fair will feature booths from more than 50 local health organizations, businesses and student-led groups. Leading health care providers and community partners including Mission Health Systems and the North Carolina Center for Health and Wellness will be exhibiting. In addition, the health fair will offer free chair massages and feature acupuncturists, chiropractic practitioners, and specialists in sexual and reproductive health. Key public health organizations and health coalitions focused on healthy weight and nutrition will also participate. Free to the public with one non-perishable food donation encouraged. All donations will be made to MANNA FoodBank.
Balance Lab Open House—12:30-1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, Sherrill Center Room 348. Learn about current research in fall prevention and improving your balance.
Biometrics Lab Open House—12:30-1:30 p.m., Tuesday,Sept. 17, Sherrill Center Room 409. Learn about individual and group fitness assessments conducted with BodPod and Microfit equipment, and have your grip strength and/or flexibility checked.
Neuro-Biofeedback Lab Open House—12:30-1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, Sherrill Center Room 442 and 451. An introduction to biofeedback and the services of the Biofeedback Lab at UNC Asheville.
Teaching Kitchen Open House—12:30-1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, Sherrill Center Teaching Kitchen, Room 346. Join us for a local foods tasting and open house in the Sherrill Center Teaching Kitchen.
