Exhibition poster featuring graphics and informationUNC Asheville's 12th Annual New Media Juried Student Exhibition opens with a reception from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, April 5, in the Highsmith University Union Gallery on campus.

The new media works make use of cutting-edge technology to create and express new ideas in responsive design, storytelling, visualizing information, animation, video, installation and performance, with content and themes that include science, literature, music, history and multiculturalism.

The juror for this year's exhibition is Nicole Johnson, an artist, designer, editor, educator, creator of award-winning advertisements, and an adjunct lecturer for UNC Asheville's New Media Program. She is also on the faculty of Parsons and has taught at New York University and MIT. Her portfolio includes spots for American Express, Coca-Cola, Anheuser-Busch, FedEx, Sony and Nokia.

Since 2009, Johnson has worked to bring health and wellness awareness into the digital studio through a health coaching program, enlightenedtable.com, and with thehealthydesign.com, a pop-up design and marketing shop for wellness professionals.

The New Media exhibition is free and open to the public, with viewing times to be announced, through April 14. For more information, please contact Associate Professor Lei Han, director of UNC Asheville's New Media Program, at lhan@unca.edu.
