New exhibit of photos of Uganda’s Bakonzo people to open at UNC Asheville
January 14, 2013

An exhibition of photos by Carrie Wagner of Uganda's Bakonzo people will open with a reception from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Blowers Gallery in UNC Asheville's Ramsey Library. NOTE - RECEPTION HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED for 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24.
Wagner, who published her photos in the book, "Village Wisdom: Immersed in Uganda, Inspired by Job, Changed for Life" (Butler Mountain Press, 2011), lived in a small Ugandan village from 1991-1994, working for Habitat for Humanity. She returned in 2009 and photos from both periods are included in the book and this exhibition, which she has created to "bring to life village experiences, weaving together the challenges of poverty and the richness of culture."
Blowers Gallery is free and open to the public through Feb. 9. This exhibition will be on view most days and evenings, whenever Ramsey Library is open. For more information, visit the Ramsey Library website or call 828.251.6436.
