This contemporary classic young-adult novel is set in a near-future dystopia where there's no pain, war or fear, but also no joy, sensation, or color. One 12-year-old is chosen for special training from The Giver to receive and keep the memories of the community's past. Upon learning the real truth, he faces weighty choices about his society's and his own destiny.

Lise Kloeppel, assistant professor of drama, directs the production, which will feature UNC Asheville students and recently retired drama faculty member Rob Storrs, in the title role. Costume design is by visiting faculty member Igor Roussanoff.

There will be evening performances Thursday-Saturday with curtain at 7:30. Saturday and Sunday matinees will begin at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $10; $8 for faculty and seniors; $5 for students, available at the box office one hour before curtain, or online at velvet seat, via the Theatre UNCA website. For more information, call 828.232.6610.
