UNC Asheville Board of Trustees Welcomes New Members, Elects Officers

The UNC Asheville Board of Trustees welcomed two new members and elected officers at its meeting July 9.

The UNC Asheville Board of Trustees has 13 members; eight are appointed by the UNC Board of Governors and four are appointed by the governor of North Carolina. The UNC Asheville Student Government Association president, who is elected by the student body, is also a voting board member.

Piyush PatelPiyush Patel, of Cary, has been appointed to the board by the governor. Patel is a technology professional with more than 25 years experience with prominent companies, including IBM and Qualcomm, and holds 27 patents. He is an active member of many civic and non-profit organizations in the Raleigh-Durham Triangle, and currently serves on the executive board of the Share and Care Foundation, North Carolina Chapter.

Benjamin JudgeBenjamin Judge, UNC Asheville's Student Government Association president, has also joined the board. A junior majoring in political science, Judge is a Carrboro High School graduate and recently completed a public policy internship with the National Consumers League in Washington, D.C.

Cissie Stevens, of Asheville, was re-elected board chair. King Prather, of Cary, was elected vice chair, and Audrey Byrd Mosley (Class of '74), of Washington, D.C., was re-elected secretary.
