Riverside and NEMAC Leverage Data and Visualization with Decision Support Technology

FORT COLLINS, Colorado -- Riverside Technology, inc. (Riverside), an industry leader in providing innovative solutions to address the increasing demand for environmental decision support technologies, and the University of North Carolina Asheville’s National Environmental Modeling and Analysis Center (NEMAC), an applied environmental research center that creates tools to address the challenges and opportunities of human interaction with the environment, announced their new strategic partnership today.

Riverside and NEMAC signed a letter of cooperation establishing a working relationship that will leverage both organizations’ resources in decision support capabilities, geospatial and visualization technologies, and weather, climate, and hydrology data expertise, as well as applied tool and software development. The joint research activities will focus on the areas of weather and climate data integration, climate change, geographic information systems (GIS), visualization technologies, and decision support systems development.

NEMAC is a well-known and recognized leader in bringing together academic, government, and public sectors through collaboration, and in using science communication and delivery to develop decision-making tools for local and regional planners, decision makers, and the public.

“Riverside is pleased to partner with NEMAC,” said Larry Brazil, President/CEO of Riverside. “Working with NEMAC on these important capabilities will bring together highly-skilled individuals to drive new innovations and provide clients with unique solutions to address complex environmental issues.”

“Partnering with Riverside builds NEMAC’s capacity outside of our region,” said Jim Fox, Director of NEMAC. “Riverside is known internationally as a quality provider of tools that really help communities address flood and water resource issues at a variety of scales. They are well respected not only here in the United States, but worldwide. We look forward to providing our expertise that will benefit both of our enterprises.”

The new partnership is already at work. Earlier this month, they jointly submitted a proposal to NOAA’s Small Business Innovation Research Program to further develop NOAA’s long-range three-month precipitation outlooks. In January, Riverside and NEMAC mutually showcased each organization’s expertise and highlighted ways in which the two groups might work together during the American Meteorological Society’s Annual Conference in New Orleans.
