Studio Art Glass Exhibit Opens at Center for Craft, Creativity & Design
November 28, 2012
"Harvey's Legacy: The Next Generation of Studio Glass in Western North Carolina," an exhibition of works by Harvey K. Littleton and by younger glass artists, is now on view at UNC Asheville's Center for Craft, Creativity & Design.
The exhibit celebrates the 50th anniversary of Littleton's groundbreaking workshops using a small furnace built for glass craft, which helped trigger the development of studio art glass in America. Littleton settled in Western North Carolina's Toe River valley after his retirement and that area now boasts a growing community of more than 50 notable glass artists.

A reception featuring sale of glass artworks will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Center, 1181 Broyles Rd., Hendersonville. Those attending will be able to purchase hand-made pint glasses, filled courtesy of Highland Brewing Company, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting glass art instruction in the region.
The exhibit will be on view 12-5 p.m. weekdays through January 7; the Center will be closed December 21-31. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
