Healthy Living Day Set for October 1 at N.C. Center for Creative Retirement

The North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement presents Healthy Living Day, with a full schedule of wellness activities and classes October 1 at UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center. Healthy Living Day is free and open to the public, from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Healthy Living Day is part of Active Aging Week in Buncombe County.
Classes and demonstrations in tae kwon do, pilates, tai chi, zumba, yoga, strength training, walking and hula hooping will offer opportunities to learn about and participate in many forms of healthy exercise. Other sessions will focus on healthy cooking, balance and fall prevention, and information about nutritional supplements.
Dr. Carl Eisdorfer, national expert on Alzheimer’s disease and director of the Center on Aging at Miami University, will be the keynote speaker, discussing “The Predictors of Successful Aging,” from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
During Healthy Living Day, Park Ridge Health’s WOW (Wellness on Wheels) van will provide free blood pressure and BMI testing, and diabetes screening, as well as healthy muffins and juice. Other healthy “grab and go” food will be available for purchase at the Reuter Café.
