UNC Asheville Board of Trustees Welcomes New Members, Elects Officers; Next Regular Meeting September 30

The UNC Asheville Board of Trustees recently welcomed new members and elected officers. The board is composed of 13 members; eight are appointed by the UNC Board of Governors and four are appointed by the North Carolina governor. The UNC Asheville Student Government Association president, who is elected by the student body, is also a voting member of the board.

New members are Ronald A. Paulus, Mission Health System CEO; N. King Prather, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary; and Renee Bindewald, UNC Asheville Student Government Association president.

Paulus has been appointed to a two-year term and Prather to a four-year term by the UNC Board of Governors. Bindewald will serve a one-year term.

Reappointed to four-year terms by the UNC Board of Governors were: Sue H. McClinton, owner of William S. Hine & Co. Inc.; UNC Asheville alumnus Audrey Byrd Moseley, general counsel, National Academy of Sciences; and Virgil Smith, vice president, Talent Acquisition and Diversity, Gannett Company. Former board member Cissie Stevens was appointed to fill an unexpired two-year term.

Reappointed to four-year terms by the Governor were UNC Asheville alumnus Dr. David Cogburn, dermatologist, and Douglas Orr, president emeritus of Warren Wilson College.

The board also elected officers for 2011-12. Cissie Stevens was elected chair, Nathan Ramsey was re-elected vice chair, and Audrey Byrd Moseley was re-elected secretary.

The board's next meeting will be held beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, in the Mission Health System Conference Room, Sherrill Center, on the UNC Asheville campus.

The meetings are open to the public. Portions of the meetings may be closed to the public under the provisions of the North Carolina Open Meetings Act.
