44th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition at UNC Asheville Opens April 8
March 30, 2011
Art Front, UNC Asheville's student art organization, together with the UNC Asheville Art Department, presents the 44th Annual Juried Student Exhibition, from April 8 through May 3 at S. Tucker Cooke Gallery, in UNC Asheville's Owen Hall, first floor.
Metalsmith and sculptor Kate Silvio, a prominent Michigan-based artist selected by the students, picked works for this show from among hundreds of submissions in a variety of media. Selected student artists will receive awards and scholarships to be announced at 6:30 p.m. during the opening reception, which takes place from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 8, in the Cooke Gallery.
Silvio has been exhibiting her works in the Midwest for 15 years, and has received commissions from the Henry Ford Hospital in West Bloomfield, Michigan, the Hotel Baronette in Novi, Michigan, and other venues. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree in metalsmithing from Cranbrook Academy of Arts in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in sculpture from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.
S. Tucker Cooke Gallery is free and open to the public, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays. For more information, contact the UNC Asheville Art Department at 828.251.6559.
