Leadership Asheville Seniors Program Celebrates 25th Anniversary

UNC Asheville’s North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement celebrates the 25th anniversary of Leadership Asheville Seniors this month.

Started in 1986, the Leadership Asheville Seniors program offers retirees an opportunity to discuss pressing issues with community leaders in distinctive venues throughout Asheville and Buncombe County. Each of nine Wednesdays focuses on a topic such as education, economy, health care, environment, government and the arts; leaders in these areas share the scope of their work, greatest needs and ways that citizens can get involved. Newcomers and longtime residents gain perspective on how they can contribute their diverse talents and expertise for the good of the community.

More than 700 people have graduated from Leadership Asheville Seniors and have gone on to serve Asheville and Buncombe County through their volunteerism and advocacy. A celebration event for program participants will take place in mid-November at UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center.

The next Leadership Asheville Seniors program will take place in August 2012. For information about the Leadership Asheville Seniors program, contact Michelle Rogers at 828.250.3871 or mrogers@unca.edu.
