Advance Care Planning Workshop at N.C. Center for Creative Retirement

UNC Asheville’s North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement will hold an advance care planning workshop featuring area experts in the medical, legal and ethical issues presented by end-of-life health care decisions. The workshop, from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11 at UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center, is free and open to the public.
Discussion will include: communicating treatment wishes to loved ones and medical personnel, ethical and legal issues, the uses of advance directives, and more. Panelists will be:
- Dr. Darilyn Dealy, a physician with CarePartners Palliative Care Consultative Services.
- Dr. David Mouw, retired faculty physician at MAHEC.
- Mary Caldwell, clinical ethics coordinator, Mission Health System.
- Anna Osborne, staff attorney, Mission Health System.
The workshop will include an ample question and answer period, and individualized assistance for those wishing to complete a legally valid advance directive, including required notarization, using the Five Wishes format.
