Writers at Home Series Continues with Readings by Great Smokies Writing Program Poetry Class

Poets participating in UNC Asheville's Great Smokies Writing Program will read their work, created under the guidance of Katherine Soniat, in the next installment of the Writers at Home series. The reading begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, at Malaprop's Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St., downtown Asheville. It is free and open to the public.
Poets Michael Beadle, Stephanie Berry, Jeannette Cabanis-Brewin, Leslie Cunningham, Nancy Dillingham, Starshield Lortie, Mesha Maren-Hogan, Gary Miller and Jerry Willis will present their recent work, developed as part of Soniat's Great Smokies Writing Program workshop.
Soniat has published four collections of poetry, including "A Shared Life," winner of the Iowa Poetry Prize. Her work has also appeared in recent issues of Image: Art, Faith, & Mystery; Iowa Review; Antioch Review; Hotel Amerika and Mid-American Review. Soniat, who teaches “Dreams, Memories and Photographs: A Poetry Workshop" in the Great Smokies Writing Program, was previously on the faculty at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and Hollins University.
