Pearson Named Big South Athlete of the Year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. UNC Asheville runner Natalie Pearson was named the Big South Conference Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Year on Friday.
Pearson, a senior from Sheffield, England, became Asheville's first-ever national qualifier when she competed at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 200-meter event. She finished seventh in her heat of the event and 18th overall at the national meet. At the 2010 Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Pearson took home the gold in the 200 meters and finished third in the 100 meters. During the season Pearson set school records in both events and ranked as high as No. 1 in the nation in the 200-meter event. She was named Asheville's top female athlete in each of the past two years and was tabbed the H.H. Zuegner award winner for 2010, an honor bestowed to the top female collegiate athlete in Western North Carolina.
