UNC Asheville Names New University Attorney

Lucien "Skip" Capone III has been named as university counsel at UNC Asheville. Capone currently serves as university counsel at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a position he has held since 1991. His appointment, following a national search, was approved by the UNC Asheville Board of Trustees on March 26. He will start his new position on April 15.
Previously, Capone served with the North Carolina Attorney General's Office in a number of capacities from 1977 to 1991. He also served as an assistant head defense counsel for the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps in 1991, when he was recalled to active duty during Desert Storm.
Capone earned his law degree at Wake Forest University and his bachelor's degree from North Carolina State University.
In his position at UNC Asheville, Capone will provide legal counsel to the chancellor, senior administrators and board of trustees on a range of issues, including contracts, federal and state regulations, UNC Asheville and University of North Carolina system policies, equal employment and personnel laws, OSHA and ADA compliance, NCAA rules, open meetings law, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
