UNC Asheville Hosts “Around the World in 90 Minutes” Program

UNC Asheville will host the digital slideshow presentation, “Around the World in 90 Minutes,” by award-winning author Marty Essen at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 20, in UNC Asheville’s Highsmith University Union, Alumni Hall. The show features interesting facts, humorous stories and thousands of photos taken while traveling to research his book, “Cool Creatures, Hot Planet: Exploring the Seven Continents.” Highlights of the show include fascinating animal facts, photos of charging elephants and howling wolves and a lesson on surviving a hippo attack. The event is free and open to the public.

Essen has won multiple book awards for travel and essay writing, including the Benjamin Franklin Award, the Best Books Book Award and the National Indie Excellence Award. He also won a first place award at the 2009 Green Book Festival in Los Angeles, and the “Minneapolis Star-Tribune” named his “Cool Creatures, Hot Planet” a top 10 green book.
