UNC Asheville Holds First Wilma Sherrill Wellness Walk

Support your health and UNC Asheville student scholarships by participating in the first UNC Asheville Wilma Sherrill Wellness Walk at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 10, on the UNC Asheville campus.  The family-friendly events include an easy 1.5 mile walk on UNC Asheville campus trails, free health screenings and special Kids' Zone activities. Healthy refreshments will be provided. Registration fee is $25. Walkers who donate an additional $75 by April 5 will be entered into a special prize drawing. Proceeds benefit scholarships for student athletes pursuing a major in Health & Wellness.

Come to the Wilma Sherrill Wellness Walk early to participate in Mission Health Systems' "Know Your Numbers," which provides blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and body mass index numbers. Screenings are available from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on the Zageir Hall deck, and are free of charge, but require a 12-hour fast. Registration for the walk begins at 8 a.m., during which time the first 100 participants can also pick up a free pedometer. Children ages four to six are invited to join student athletes and UNC Asheville's live mascot Rocky in the Kids' Zone, located on the Zageir Hall lawn, which offers supervised childcare during the walk and a special photo opportunity with Rocky.
