UNC Asheville Career Center Holds "Life is Calling…What is Your Intention" Week

UNC Asheville's Career Center will host "Life is Calling…What is Your Intention," a series of career and personal development activities, from March 29-April 2. The series is designed to help participants align their career goals with their life vision, and will include motivational speakers and workshops. All events are free and open to the public.
Intention Week kicks off with a talk by motivational speaker and noted author Peggy Tabor Millin at 4 p.m. Monday, March 29, in UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union, room 223. In her talk, "I Accept! Life as a Creative Journey," Millin will integrate her experience as a writer and teacher to inspire participants with a confident approach to creative expression. Millin is the author of various magazine articles, short stories, poetry, and the nonfiction book, "Mary's Way," which was featured on the "Oprah Winfrey Show."
Other events include:
-- More than 55 employers are scheduled to participate in UNC Asheville's Internship and Job Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, March 29, in UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union. Community members and alumni are invited to join UNC Asheville students to learn more about part-time, seasonal and full-time jobs and internship opportunities.
-- Author and instructor Lavinia Plonka will lead two workshops on "Stepping Up in Style: The Feldenkrais Method of Movement Education" at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, in UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union, room 223. She will demonstrate this noted movement technology that helps participants stand taller, look more elegant and think more clearly. Plonka's movement experience spans over 30 years, and includes a residency for the Guggenheim Museum and positions as movement consultant for theater and television companies around the world.
-- The "2010 Change the World Day" will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, on the UNC Asheville Quad. UNC Asheville students, faculty and staff who are changing the world will share their work with the community through displays on projects ranging from raising awareness about social issues to working with the elderly.
-- UNC Asheville's Career Center staff will lead guided labyrinth walks from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, on the UNC Asheville Quad in conjunction with Change the World Day, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 2, at the UNC Asheville Labyrinth, located on the grassy knoll above UNC Asheville's Weizenblatt Hall and below Ramsey Library. Rain location is UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union, room 223.
-- UNC Asheville Career Center Director Eileen Buecher and UNC Asheville senior Louisa Normington will lead two workshops on "Visualizing Your Future: Finding Your Calling in Stillness, Meditation, Journaling and Reflection" at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, in UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union, room 223. The workshop will give participants an experiential opportunity and tools to reflect on their identity and goals.
-- The instructors of Horse Sense of the Carolinas Inc. will show how horses can benefit and inspire confidence in students in "An Equine-Assisted Learning Experience" from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, on the A.C. Reynolds Green, located behind Ramsey Library. Shannon Knapp, founder and president of Horse Sense, will demonstrate how working with horses can teach leadership development and team building skills.
-- Career counselor and yoga instructor Alex Moody will lead two classes on "Yoga and Intention: Aligning Your Potential," at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday, April 1, in UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union, room 223.
