Defense lawyer for detainees and international law expert to discuss Guantanamo dilemmas

UNC Asheville’s N.C. Center for Creative Retirement presents, “Guantanamo: The Law, the Dilemma, and the Options,” a discussion by two distinguished experts, including one with first-hand knowledge of the Guantanamo legal proceedings, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, in the Manheimer Room at UNC Ashville’s Reuter Center.
This event offers a chance to hear the experience of Frank Goldsmith, who provides pro-bono counsel to Guantanamo detainees. Goldsmith, an attorney practicing in Marion, is also a retired captain in the Judge Advocate General Corps. Goldsmith will be joined by George Walker, Professor of Law at Wake Forest University and former Stockton Professor of International Law at the Naval War College.
