UNC Asheville's Super Saturday Program Offers Super Classes for Kids
January 19, 2010
Saturdays are super this spring at UNC Asheville! Gifted, creative and highly motivated 3rd-8th graders have the opportunity to explore bookmaking, photo editing, biology, Web page design and much more at UNC Asheville’s semi-annual Super Saturday program beginning March 6. The program has helped more than 12,000 children from across Western North Carolina explore their special interests through hands-on learning on the UNC Asheville campus.
Students can choose from 25 courses open for registration. Those interested in working with their hands can piece together a new book, hand-build pottery or make paper. Computer wizards can learn basic digital photo editing or explore computer-generated music. Aspiring performance artists can try their hand at basic magic, take lessons in Chinese lion dancing or play improvisational theater games.
Several UNC Asheville faculty members and upper-level students teach Super Saturday classes, along with outstanding public school teachers, educators and other professionals.
Super Saturday courses meet from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays from March 6-April 17. All students are welcome to apply; the registration deadline is March 3. Tuition is $69 for each course.
