Applied Vis 2006
Overview| Date & Location | Focus | Sponsors | Contacts
Asheville is the regional hub for technology, high performance computing, weather and climate data, GIS expertise, industry, education, and multi-media arts – forming a strong culture focused on the growing field of applied visualization. This is the third annual conference, building on the successes of Quarks to Quasars in 2004 and AppliedVis 2005. As Western North Carolina continues on this journey, this conference will serve as a venue to share past successes and envision new possibilities for the future. Economic development and direct application of visualization technologies in WNC will be a primary focus.
Applied visualization is the use of computer-based technologies that make large amounts of information more understandable by combining the results of data analysis, computing models, interactive technologies, display technologies, and narrative development. The results provide people from all sectors (including community planners, scientists, media professionals, engineers, educators, artists, designers, and business people) the ability to communicate complex ideas in ways that are easily understandable to a wide variety of audiences. Primary applications include weather forecasting, environmental modeling, urban planning, science communication, financial models and medical analysis.
