MISSION
The North Carolina Center for Health & Wellness will be a leading catalyst for the prevention of chronic health conditions through promotion of healthy living among North Carolinians of all ages.
The Center will educate health and wellness professionals, study critical health and wellness issues, develop effective health and wellness programs, and share its research findings for the benefit of all.
The Center will exemplify UNC Asheville's commitment to a liberal arts education, undergraduate research and community collaboration.
In 2004, the North Carolina Legislature, in
concert with the UNC Board of Governors awarded $35 million to UNC Asheville
to plan and build the North Carolina Center for Health & Wellness. An additional $7 million is being raised by the University for programming, equipment, and non-health and wellness related spaces.
The Center will educate professionals, study critical health and wellness themes, develop effective health and wellness programs, and share its research findings for the benefit of all.
The NCCH&W aspires to exemplify UNC Asheville’s mission and commitment to an integrated liberal arts education, undergraduate research, and community collaboration.
All the Center’s activities emphasize achievement of
racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic health parity.
The Center’s current focus is the promotion of healthy
living among children, workers, and older adults. Specific goals within
these populations include the prevention of childhood obesity, enhancement
of workplace wellness, and the facilitation of healthy aging.
