Frequently Asked Questions

Ø   What is the probability that my paper will be published?

o     The percentage of papers not published is usually around 12-18%. Of that 12-18%, almost one half are "self-rejections" where the student chooses not to submit their revised paper.

Ø   When will the Proceedings be available?

o     The published Proceedings is mailed on September 30.

Ø   May I submit my paper to other journals or publications?

o     Yes. The Proceedings are not copy written.

Ø   Why should I submit a paper?

o     Resume-entry for graduate school or career positions.
Feedback on your article from faculty outside your institution.
First step in publishing your research at a professional conference or in a journal.

Ø   What are the Proceedings?

o     Publications of student research papers published annually by the University of North Carolina at Asheville. In conjunction with the NCUR Governing Board. This publication is distributed nationally. This means your research is read throughout the country.

Ø   Benefits of submitting a paper includes:

o     Review and input from outside of your college or university.

o     Publications can be listed on resources for graduate and professional school

Ø   What are the deadline dates?

 

Paper submission by mail:

 

To avoid the late fee: Papers to be considered for the Conference Proceedings must be postmarked no later than February 27, 2008. A $30 processing fee must accompany all submissions.

 With late fee: Papers postmarked February 28, 2008, or later will require an additional $30 late fee ($30 processing + $30 late fee = $60 total). The deadline for mailing late papers to the Proceedings Office is March 27, 2008. However, you may hand deliver your paper to the Proceedings Desk at the conference.

Paper submission by hand:

Students wishing to submit a paper after March 27, 2008, may do so. Please make sure you have your $30 submission fee and $30 late fee = $60 total.  Hand deliver your Proceedings paper to the Proceedings Station at the conference during normal working hours Thursday and Friday, April 11 and 12.
    

Last day to submit a paper:

Paper submissions will be accepted on Saturday, April 12. Papers submitted on Saturday, April 12, will be subject the $30 processing and $30 late fee. No papers will be accepted after 12:00 (noon) on Saturday, April 12, 2008.
