Job Title: NCCCR Health and Wellness Committee Member Job Description: The Health and Wellness Committee is responsible for bringing exciting and innovative wellness programs to NCCCR members and in some cases, the greater community. We also collaborate with UNC Asheville along with the NC Center for Health and Wellness, a state-of-the-art facility that is under construction on Campus Drive. Attend a meeting once a month and plan to volunteer a few hours a week to a community outreach project, or to work on curriculum for the new wellness building. Time Commitment/Duration: This committee meets once a month; assignments and other service will take place in between meetings (see above). Job Title: UNC Asheville Gardening Crew member Time Commitment/Duration: We are currently meeting at our mixed edible garden behind the Dining hall every Wednesday at 4 pm and Saturday at 11 am, for about 2-3 hours. Show up when you can! Generally, if it is raining, we meet under the balcony anyway just to check in. Volunteer needs will vary seasonally. Job Title: Moderator at Undergraduate Research Conference Job Description: UNC Asheville has been nationally recognized for its thriving Undergraduate Research Program. Get involved and learn more by moderating conference sessions on campus twice a year. Session duties include introducing speakers, keeping within time constraints, moderating Q&A and thanking speakers. Time Commitment/Duration: The conference takes place in fall and spring semesters and you’ll be asked to volunteer 1-2 hours each time. Job Title: NCCCR Party Planning Subcommittee Job Description: The party planning subcommittee works within the membership committee to provide four parties or socials per year—one per term—to provide an opportunity for members to enjoy fellowship and fun together. Subcommittee member duties include planning and hosting the event, including refreshments, decorating and publicizing. We have fun together and our events have been a successful way to build community at the Center. Time Commitment/Duration: This committee meets four times per year, before each party or social, to plan and then committee members help the day of the event. Job Title: Medical Information Volunteer Job Description: Do you know senior citizens who need accurate and objective information about Medicare and other insurance issues? Would you like to help the seniors in our community with an issue that is often confusing and intimidating? Are you sensitive to the needs of others, and do you care about the elderly in our community? If you answered yes to these questions, SHIIP needs you. The Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program is conducted by volunteers throughout North Carolina with the support of the NC Department of Insurance and locally by the Council on Aging. Job Title: Community Education Committee member Job Description: The Community Education Committee needs members to help brainstorm and review opportunities to connect the Center with the greater community. Connections may be education- or outreach-oriented. For example, this Committee oversees projects such as Support Teams (which provides one on one practical support to members in need), computer literacy courses for underserved seniors, and Reuter Center food drives, to name a few. The Committee also oversees the Center's Blue Ridge Naturalist and Leadership Asheville Seniors education programs. Time Commitment/Duration: The Committee meets once a month. Job Title: Marketing Committee member Job Description: The Marketing Committee provides/reviews marketing, publicity, publications and electronic information distribution for all Center programs and operations to ensure that all NCCCR efforts accurately promote its stated vision, mission and message. There is an Electronic Media Subcommittee which is responsible for the NCCCR website (we are about to launch a significantly upgraded website) and coordinating all internet marketing efforts. There is also a Communications Subcommittee which develops, recommends and reviews advertising campaigns and publicity content. Time Commitment/Duration: The committee meets the third Thursday of each month at the Reuter Center at 2 PM, usually for 2 hours. Job Title: Event Volunteers Job Description: We regularly hold events at the Center where we need some “extra hands” to help out. Duties may include helping with refreshments, decorating, greeting, and other needs that come up. This is a great way to meet people! Job Title: College for Seniors Curriculum Subcommittee Administrative Assistant Job Description: Be in the know about upcoming College for Seniors courses! Listen to and provide input on curriculum selection! Take minutes at each meeting. Distribute minutes by email to subcommittee members. Prior to each meeting, distribute agenda. Proceedings are strictly confidential. Time Commitment/Duration: Curriculum committee usually meets the third Friday of each month in the early afternoon for two hours, July through June. Job Title: Tutor for UNCA Student Athlete(s) Job Description: UNCA’s Academic Enhancement program seeks tutors for a couple of hours/days a week (the schedule is VERY flexible) to tutor student athletes in any of the following subjects: statistics, Spanish, economics, writing, humanities, math, accounting, chemistry, biology, business management or psychology. Instructors are needed for all terms. Time commitment: CFS terms are 4-8 weeks long. Course proposals are due approximately 6 months in advance of the term during which the class will be offered. Job Title: Support Team Volunteer Job Description: Support Team Volunteers provide one on one practical and emotional support (i.e. gardening, shopping, making a meal, providing transportation to appointments, etc) for members of NCCCR who have health concerns and other needs. Time Commitment/Duration: 3-hour training is necessary before service begins. Then, meet with a “friend” in need 1+ hour per week. Support Team Volunteers gather once a month for a 59 minute meeting. Job Title: CFS Computer Course Teacher Job Description: We are looking for members with adequate back ground and experience in computers to teach (1) introductory “Getting Started with Computers” class or (2) varied application classes (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Vista, etc) or (3) other miscellaneous computer classes (Mac apps, history, programming, etc). All potential CFS teachers are required to submit course proposals. There are many sources of support and assistance for teachers, and $ credit is given to volunteer instructors for CFS programs.
