Deborah Squier

Biography

Deborah Squier is a UNC-Chapel Hill graduate and a 3rd generation family artist. She is highly regarded for her regional landscapes both in pastel and oil. Her works have been described as luminous and full of atmosphere. They serve as a reminder of our connection to the earth’s elements. In the tradition of the Jungian collective of our consciousness, Deborah believes we carry within us an interior landscape which is instinctually aligned with the earth’s forces. And this interior landscape with its “memories, dreams and reflections” is a critical part of our sense of well-being and attunement.

Deborah exhibits regularly at Blue Spiral 1 and will be exhibiting in their upcoming Parkway Show which opens August 31. She is dedicated to working with the Appalachian landscape with a focus on preserving the natural landscape of this unique region. Deborah is affiliated with AWE (Artists Working for the Environment), a group of environmentally conscious artists who help raise revenues for preservation and conservation in the Southern Appalachians. Squier wrote in her essay, The Sky Above and the Earth Below…, “What motivates my painting is a passionate love and respect for the natural order of things… the mystery of life in all its manifestations”.
