Guidelines for Use of the Art Room (RC230)

The UNCA Health and Safety Manual requires that all waste, including hazardous waste, be brought to the physical plant for processing – hazardous waste includes paints, thinners, solvents, strong acids or alkalis, many chemicals and rags and wipes used with these. All materials must be clearly labeled with originating department (NCCCR – Reuter Center) and contents. A work order will have to be prepared to schedule collection. If you do not know if a particular material is hazardous - ASK!

All art classes or SIGs using hazardous materials MUST:
• Notify Facility Coordinator prior to the class/meeting that they will be using the material.
• Provide name of material to be disposed of and date the material is to be used (so label can be created and pick up scheduled)

There should be no use of open flame equipment in the Reuter Center.

Tables in Room 230 should be covered with plastic tablecloths provided – in cabinet in room.

Counter tops and tables should be clear and clean after class/meeting. Goop is available at sinks for hand cleaning.

College for Seniors classes will be allowed to leave class materials on shelves in RC230 – this should be arranged with Facility Coordinator so shelf assignments can be made. At the end of each term ALL MATERIALS MUST BE REMOVED FROM RC230.

SIG participants must remove their materials after each meeting.
