Explore the Art, Architecture & Ambiance of Asheville

Downtown Asheville is a fascinating mix of people, galleries, architecture and eateries. We’ll start with coffee and muffins at one of our eclectic coffee shops. Then we’ll do some browsing (and shopping) at an emporium selling locally made arts and crafts in a recently restored 1920’s building. We’ll visit the newly renovated Grove Arcade (in 1927 it was the first indoor shopping mall) and we’ll stop at a fabulous art gallery displaying some of our local talent. As we stroll, we’ll discuss the wonderful Art Deco buildings we pass and learn about some of Asheville’s early history along part of the Urban Trail. We’ll conclude with lunch at one of Asheville’s fun restaurants. Food is “dutch treat.”
Time: 10 AM–3 PM Cost: $10 per person

Experience the Outdoor Beauty of Western North Carolina

Within in a few minutes drive of downtown Asheville, you can experience the natural beauty of forests and streams. You will spend the day enjoying the great outdoors with fellow Weekenders and other who have successfully transitioned to Asheville and Hendersonville. We will travel by bus to the North Carolina Arboretum where you will be introduced to the vast natural beauty of our mountains and learn about the rich diversity of the forest and gardens including a Bonsai exhibit. The outing will include guided walks–either a gentle walk of the gardens or a more challenging walk on a trail– and lunch.  After spending much of the Weekend indoors, this is a perfect opportunity to stretch you legs and experience a small part of the beauty of WNC. Time: 9:30 am-2:30 pm. Cost: $50 per person (includes transportation , admission fees and lunch).
