The Bachlor of Arts in music with an emphasis in Jazz Studies was established in 1994 for students wishing to pursue careers as jazz performers, composers and arrangers. Students have the opportunity to perform in a wide variety of ensembles, enroll in many jazz courses and study with UNCA's experienced teachers/performers.

Since 2003 the Jazz Studies program at UNCA has been under the direction of Dr. David Wilken.
