Melodie G. Galloway

Professor of Music
Melodie G. Galloway holds the Master’s degree from
Florida State University in Vocal Performance and the Doctor of
Musical Arts degree in conducting from the University of North
Carolina at Greensboro. Her experience as a conductor and soprano
soloist includes opera, music theatre, and a professional vocal
ensemble, where she has been a soloist in Russia, Estonia, Ireland,
England, Spain, and for former Presidents Bush and Clinton as part
of the White House Christmas celebrations. Currently Dr. Galloway is
an assistant professor in music, directing the University Singers,
the Chamber Symphony, and Studio 18 – an advanced vocal jazz
ensemble, and she is the Coordinator of Vocal Studies. The UNCA
Chamber Singers, comprised of singers from both ensembles by
audition, recently (December 2007) represented the university
performing for the holiday open house celebrations at the White
House with Dr. Galloway conducting.
Her work in the region has included music direction for productions of Ragtime and West Side Story with the Haywood Arts Regional Theatre; Carmina Burana, presented with the UNCA University Singers, the Reuter Center Singers, the UNCA Percussion Ensemble, Voices in the Laurel children and youth choirs, and professional soloists; and she was the recent recipient of the Best Actress award for her role of Jen in John and Jen - a production which also received Best Play-runner-up at the Southeastern Regional Theatre Conference in Chattanooga, TN, March, 2008.
