Prerequisites: MUSC 335 or 386 or permission of the instructor

Course Description: Individual recording, computer music, and research projects realized in the UNCA Music Technology Studios

Evaluation: You will be graded on the quantity and quality of your work. It is important that you sign in and out on the Music Office log so that you get credit for that time when I compute your final grade. Qualitatively, I expect that your project will exhibit a high level of engineering excellence (low noise, no distortion, well balanced levels, well-defined spatial and timbral organization, etc.); appropriate documentation, and labeling; tightly edited (with digital editor); etc. I also expect your project to reflect a high degree of musicianship, e.g., in tune, good ensemble, well rehearsed (before the tracking session)--not during it), etc.

NOTE: All projects must be submitted on CD or DVD with the appropriate labeling and documentation (setup diagrams, microphone input lists, track sheets, take sheets, etc.). Students are expected to promptly report to the studio manager any equipment malfunctions, missing gear, damage, etc. Students are responsible for familiarizing themselves with all studio policies and procedures. Any infractions by you or your artists will result in loss of studio privileges and the possibility of a failing grade for the course. You are responsible for the conduct of your artists.

Attendance: Attendance at all scheduled class meetings is mandatory. Absence and/or habitual lateness will result in the lowering of you final grade. I will schedule individual meetings with students throughout the semester (also during the regularly scheduled meeting times). Studio time is booked via the sign-up sheet posted outside the control room on a "first come, first served" basis. Book your time early in the semester--DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST FEW WEEKS. NO grades of INCOMPLETE will be given.
