Mortimer Khan Management Scholarship
Why this scholarship was established
The Mortimer Kahn Management Scholarship was established to provide
tuition support for students who are majoring in management or
business related fields. The Broad River Processing Company, Inc.
endowed this award on 27 January 1981 in honor of long time
Asheville resident and businessman Mortimer I. Kahn. Mr. Kahn, a man
of high moral principle and integrity, was committed to his family
and community. His belief in dealing fairly with his fellow man and
in the value of hard work are the underlying principles of this
financial award. Upon the death of his parents, Mr. Kahn was forced
to forego his plans of being a physician and provide for his two
younger sisters. Through a series of business arrangements, Mr. Kahn
acquired, enhanced, and expanded the J. A. Baker Packing Company
into its successor the Broad River Processing Company. His life
experiences convinced Mr. Kahn of the value of higher education and
imbued him with the desire to assist deserving students in
accomplishing their academic goals. The award is for a bona fide
North Carolina resident and is based on merit and financial need.
The award is non-renewable.
