Professor of Management, B.A., Literature,
University of North Carolina Asheville; M.B.A., University of North
Carolina Chapel Hill. She holds a Certificate in Public Accounting
from the state of North Carolina. She is a Certified Management
Accountant and has been certified in Production and Inventory
Management. Professor Nelms was awarded the Ruth and Leon Feldman
Professorship for Outstanding Service in 1998 and the University
Service Council Award in 2003. She has published articles in peer
reviewed international journals such as The Journal of
Financial Planning, The CPA Journal, The
International Journal of Industrial Engineering Theory, Application,
and Practice, and The Management Accountant as
well as conference proceedings. Her courses include Principles of
Accounting, Cost Accounting, Production and Inventory Control, and
Enron, WorldCom, and Why You Should Care (a liberal studies
introductory course). Mrs. Nelms has served as the director of UNC
Asheville’s Undergraduate Research Program and has been faculty
mentor for student research. Her personal research interests are in
retirement planning, business ethics, cost accounting, and
accounting pedagogy. She is a member of the American Accounting
Association, the North Carolina Association of Certified Public
Accountants, the Institute of Management Accountants, and the
American Institute of Public Accountants. |
