Candidates are invited to apply for a tenure-track assistant professor position for a statistician in
the Department of Mathematics at UNCA, starting Fall 2008. UNCA is a public liberal arts college dedicated to undergraduate teaching. Located in the beautiful southern Appalachian Mountains, the University is noted for its undergraduate research and its interdisciplinary humanities program. The Mathematics Department is vibrant and energetic. We currently have around 90 math majors who run an active math club, participate in undergraduate research, and are involved in several national and international math programs. Our faculty are engaged in research as well as teaching and collaborating across disciplines. The Mathematics Department has recently become a new NSF-REU site. Position responsibilities include: 12 hour teaching load (typically 3 courses) per semester, active research, student advising, and university service. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory to upper level statistics courses, math courses as needed, and the possibility of interdisciplinary courses. A successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in statistics, or in mathematics with a concentration in statistics, demonstrated teaching excellence, and a commitment to scholarship. |
