Western North Carolina
Leadership Scholarship Program
Mission Statement
We, the UNC Asheville leadership scholars, serve through personal growth opportunities and dedication to the principles of leadership and service for the empowerment and enrichment of others and ourselves.
The goals of the WNC Leadership Scholarship Program are:
· To develop program participants as high quality leaders, community volunteers, role models, and teachers for other students
· To provide learning experiences which will enable personal exploration and challenge students beyond their previously accepted boundaries
· To provide experiences which will increase self-esteem and self-confidence
· To enhance awareness of worldwide issues and issues of diversity
· To enable students to think expansively and inspire others
The Western North Carolina Leadership Scholarship Program is a powerful, unique and innovative four-year program designed to develop leadership among selected students from the western 24 counties of North Carolina. In this intensive and personalized program, students will learn about leadership development through traditional classroom experiences, experiential learning activities, laboratory assignments, community service, and mentoring relationships.
To achieve these goals, participants must participate in all required activities of the program, activities which are personally meaningful, to enhance their experience of and learning about leadership, take responsibility for their own learning, and commit themselves to providing growth-producing experiences for their peers.
