The following is a list of Internships/Senior Projects that involve community/volunteer work. Each class is open to students who are enrolled in the department.

Accounting Internship
ACCT 405
A semester long internship program in public, private or governmental accounting. Weekly meetings with faculty advisor and/or internship coordinator including journal review and structured series of questions are required.
Prerequisite: ACCT 302; permission of instructor.

Cooperative Education in Atmospheric Science
ATMS (381 and 383)
Majors with at least sophomore status may apply for part-time positions at local firms dealing with meteorology. Students are required to work between 3-10 hours a week throughout the semester.
Prerequisite: Permission of department chair.

Professional and Technical Internship in Atmospheric Science
ATMS 490
Students engage in independent research under the supervision of a faculty mentor. Student works 20 hours a week throughout the semester.

Senior Project in Computer Science
CSCI 462
Projects are a demonstration of in-depth knowledge in one aspect of computer science. Typically students work with local organizations on these projects.
Prerequisite: Permission of instructor and approval by department's senior Project Committee of a senior project proposal. Additional guidelines for the senior project proposal may be obtained from the departmental secretary.

Professional and Technical Internship in Drama
DRAMA 499
Intensive experience with a participating professional theater arranged individually for the Drama major's area of concentration. Open only to Drama majors.
Prerequisite: Determined individually. See Department Chair.

Internship in Economics
ECON 400
Semester long internship with a participating host organization, usually in Western North Carolina. Open only to students who have declared a major or minor in Economics.
Prerequisite: Fifteen hours of economics with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 in those courses. See department chair.

Internship in Environmental Science
ENVR 490
A field work experience in a public agency, public interest group or industry. Participants experience is under the supervision of the UNCA ENVR internship director and on-site work cooperator.
Prerequisites: Junior or senior standing, declared major in one of the program concentrations and permission of the ENVR internship director. Projects are at least 130 hours and may be conducted throughout the United States or foreign countries.

History Internship
HIST 395
The class includes a scheduled internship with participating archives, museum, company, or historic or government agency, to be taken on an individual basis by majors with at least 21 hours of history.
Prerequisite: Permission of department chair and supervising faculty member required.

Professional and Technical Internship in Management
MGMT 489
Semester long internship with a participating host organization, preferably in the Western North Carolina area, scheduled for each management student in the senior year. Specific information is available from the director of the internship program.
Prerequisites: Minimum 2.0 grade point average overall and in major courses; permission of department internship director. Pre-or co-requisite: MGMT 480.

Senior Design Project in Industrial & Engineering Mgmt
MGMT 492
A semester long designing project with a participating host organization in the Western North Carolina area. This course consists of a specific project involving the design of a management system.
Prerequisites: Senior standing and consent of sponsoring faculty.

Professional Internship in Mass Communication
MCOM 451
Student with a 3.0 or better within the major may apply for a professional internship in either print or electronic media.
Prerequisites: Completion of 12 hours in mass communication; departmental approval; and permission of instructor.

Multimedia Internship
MMAS 340
Students engage in supervised work in a community setting. Students will receive hands on-training in the creation of multimedia projects in an applied setting.
Prerequisite: MMAS 221; or permission of the instructor.

Professional and Technical Internship in Music
MUS 390, 490
Internship with participating firm or organization relevant to student's degree emphasis. Internships are available in various cities, such as New York, Nashville and Los Angeles as well as cities in North Carolina. Specific information is available from department chair. Prerequisite: Departmental permission.

Internship in Political Science
POLS 400
A semester long internship program with participating organizations, firms, public agencies or community service organizations. Background readings and field research as well as practical experience are required.
Prerequisite: 15 hours of Political Science

Fieldwork in Psychology
PSYC 463
Advanced psychology students work in local human service agencies to gain applied clinical experience. Weekly seminar meetings focus on the acquisition of basic helping skills and discussion of ethical and professional issues.
Prerequisites: PSYC 101, 102, 201, 202 and one relevant 300-level elective (308, 312, or 345); permission of the instructor.

Internship in Sociology and Anthropology
SOC 400
A semester program with participating agencies in fields related to sociology and anthropology. Students may conduct a supervised internship or volunteer as a service-learning project.
Prerequisite: 12 hours in Sociology and/or Anthropology.
